The plaintiffs brought a motion to certify the action as a class proceeding on January 9, 2017. The defendant consented to certification of the class action for settlement purposes. On January 13, Justice McDonald released reasons certifying the action. Those reasons are posted on the Documents tab.
All Class Members who do not opt out of the action are automatically included in the class. Class Members who have an ongoing lawsuit alleging gender or sexual orientation-based harassment or discrimination in the RCMP must discontinue that action in order to participate in the settlement. Failure to do so will result in that Class Member being deemed to opt out of the class action under s.334.21(2) of the Federal Courts Rules, SOR/98 -106.
The settlement approval motion was heard by Justice McDonald on May 24, 2017. Justice McDonald released reasons approving the settlement on May 30, 2017. Those reasons are posted on the Documents tab.
